OVER 40% COe REDUCED STAINLESS STEEL*

MKN SteelPlus

By purchasing the MKN SteelPlus option, MKN promises to process COe reduced stainless steel according to your order in its production. The ordered appliance is not manufactured directly with COe reduced stainless steel. However, the purchase of the option increases the proportion of COe reduced stainless steel in MKN's total production by the proportion acquired. The amount of COe saved by the purchase of approx. 0.83 kg** COe per kg of stainless steel appliance insert (Scope 1, 2, 3 - option) will be confirmed.

The COe reduced stainless steel used by MKN, among others, is produced using a special manufacturing process that reduces the COe footprint by at least 40% compared to the European standard.
Compared to the global average (6.82 tons of COe per ton of stainless steel***), the COe reduction is more than 80%, or over 85% if the stainless steel was produced in China (8.52 tons of COe per ton of stainless steel****).
The low COe footprint of the stainless steel used is achieved through a particularly high recycling rate of approx. 98% and the use of low-COe electricity for production.

Is MKN SteelPlus installed in my ordered device?

No, not immediately. We cannot guarantee that your device is made exclusively from SteelPlus. But we do have independent bodies confirm that we incorporate the same amount of SteelPlus into our overall production process. This allows us to gradually increase the total amount of SteelPlus in production and, together with you, reduce COe emissions during the manufacture of the appliances. You will receive written confirmation of the stainless steel content of your purchased appliance and thus the amount of COe saved during stainless steel production.

Why does MKN offer the SteelPlus option?

We all have a great interest in reducing COe emissions in order to counteract global warming. MKN is committed, takes responsibility and aligns its strategic corporate goals towards carbon neutrality in the future. MKN SteelPlus is our solution to significantly reduce the COe footprint in professional kitchens, as stainless steel is the main component in professional kitchens. MKN currently offers the option for FlexiCombi® and FlexiChef®.

Why is my ordered appliance with the SteelPlus version not built entirely with COe reduced stainless steel?

Currently, COe reduced stainless steel is not yet available in all qualities and quantities, so we are not yet able to switch completely to SteelPlus.

We enable our customers to reduce their own COe footprint.  When ordering SteelPlus, MKN undertakes to purchase the respective quantity of stainless steel (including offcuts) from SteelPlus and to use it in its products. This reduces the COe footprint in line with the amount of stainless steel used in the appliance. With the mass balance or quantity equalization method used, we can offer you a reduction in COe emissions at low additional cost (approx. 1% of the appliance price, depending on the appliance). The mass balancing we carry out is monitored and certified annually by an independent body.

How can I be sure that the COe reduced stainless steel - MKN SteelPlus - is also processed at MKN?

An independent auditing company audits the mass balance sheet once a year and confirms its correctness in the annual report. We are also working towards official certification by an independent auditing body, which monitors and confirms the process.

How high are the COe emissions of conventionally produced stainless steel compared to MKN SteelPlus?

Will I receive confirmation of the reduction in emissions during the production of MKN SteelPlus stainless steel?

Yes, you will receive written confirmation of the COe emission savings achieved as a result of your order with MKN SteelPlus.

Example:

You purchase an MKN premium appliance with a stainless steel content of e.g. 150 kg:

If MKN SteelPlus is used, the COe footprint of the stainless steel in this example is reduced by 119.25 kg COe. This COe saving is confirmed to you.

How do I receive the COe savings confirmation?

There is a form for this, which you fill out and send back to MKN by email. MKN will send you a confirmation for each appliance with details of the stainless steel content and your COe savings.

One form must be completed for each device and you will also receive a confirmation for each device.

Fill out this form completely and send it to : steelpluswhatever@mkn.de

Why are the COe emissions so low with MKN Steel Plus?

MKN SteelPlus uses a very high proportion of recycled stainless steel. Average stainless steel produced in Europe already has a high recycling value of approx. 90%. The recycling value of MKN SteelPlus is even higher at approx. 98%. This means that almost one hundred percent of SteelPlus stainless steel has already been used as stainless steel. It is therefore particularly clean and sustainable because only 2% primary raw materials need to be added. MKN SteelPlus is manufactured within the EU using state-of-the-art production methods and low-COe electricity.

Does the MKN SteelPlus option cost more?

MKN SteelPlus is an option that is actively supported by MKN, so that the additional price is only approx. 1% of the appliance price. The exact value depends on the amount of stainless steel used, which varies depending on the appliance type.

What does Scope 1,2,3 mean?

  • Scope 1 comprises the direct release of COe gases within the company.
  • Scope 2 comprises the indirect release of COe gases by energy suppliers.
  • Scope 3 comprises the indirect release of COe gases in the upstream and downstream supply chain.

For which appliances is the MKN SteelPlus option offered?

The SteelPlus option is currently available for MKN FlexiChef®  and FlexiCombi®
